Community Psychology Bachelor's Degree


Granted by St. Cloud State University, the bachelor in Community Psychology  degree program available at Anoka-Ramsey Community College has three options:

1) bachelor of elective studies (BES) available entirely online

2) bachelor of science (BS) in Community Psychology available as a combination of online and face-to-face at the Anoka-Ramsey campus

3) bachelor of science in CPSY Chemical Dependency that builds on the BS in CPSY available as a combination online and face-to-face at the Anoka-Ramsey campus.

Potential Careers

The BES and BS in CPSY prepare students for entry level practitioner positions in settings such as:

·         Schools

·         Childcare Facilities

·         Human Services Agencies

·         Corporations

·         Group Homes

·         Half-way Houses

·         Private and Public Mental Health Facilities

Students can also apply for graduate degrees in counseling or professional psychology programs such as:

·         Community Counseling

·         Behavior Analysis

·         School Counseling

·         Marriage and Family Therapy

·         Rehabilitation Counseling

·         College Counseling and Student Development

The BS of CPSY in Chemical Dependency prepares students to become licensed chemical dependency counselors. This license leads to career opportunities in chemical dependency treatment/educational centers found in:

·         Public and private hospitals

·         Community mental health centers

·         Post-secondary schools

·         For profit and nonprofit treatment centers

Location

The courses are available online while the face-to-face courses will be taught on one of the Anoka-Ramsey campuses.

Admission

Students must be admitted to St. Cloud State as well as the CPSY or Chemical Dependency major (separate steps). Students may start in the fall semester when the introductory courses are offered at the Anoka-Ramsey campus or by taking the introductory courses online (contact Dr. Mills-Novoa for additional information) and may move through the program at their own pace.

Next Step

Students who are interested should contact Dr. Avelino Mills-Novoa as early as possible to arrange an advising/information meeting. The transition from the A.A. program at Anoka-Ramsey to the BES or BS program through St. Cloud State  will be facilitated greatly by an early contact.

Register for Classes

Students may register for the St. Cloud State courses online after they have either been admitted to St. Cloud State as transfer students or have requested Special Student Status. One of these is required for registration.

Anoka-Ramsey Community College courses to take as part of the associate in arts degree compenent:

  • HPER 1120 – Wellness for Life (4 credits) (this specific course is very important in order to meet the SCSU wellness requirement for graduation)
  • PSYC 1110 – General Psychology (4 credits)
  • PSYC 2235 – Lifespan Development (4 credits)
  • Math 1110 – Introductory Statistics (3 credits)
